People Also AskRelated questions box

The expandable box of related questions in the search results - and the most honest free source there is for how your customers actually phrase their problem.

What is People Also Ask?

People Also Ask is the block of related questions Google places between search results; in German it is labelled "Nutzer fragen auch". Each question expands into a short excerpt from a website, with a link to the source. The block is dynamic: open one question and more are pushed in behind it, and the selection differs by query, device and moment. The slot cannot be bought, and there is no fixed position.

For editorial work the box is an observation source first and a target second. It shows, in real phrasings, which questions circle your topic, often in words nobody uses in-house. Put alongside the query report in Search Console and the questions arriving by inbox and phone, that produces the list a page should be structured around. If you do want to appear there, the structure is the same as for a featured snippet: question as heading, a compact answer in two to four sentences, then the depth.

The flip side is worth stating plainly. The box often answers the question inside the excerpt, so a click is the exception rather than the rule; it belongs to the surfaces where visibility and visits come apart. That is not an argument against the work but one about its direction: the answer has to be useful inside the passage, with name, condition and next step, rather than banking on the click.

Why does People Also Ask matter?

The box costs nothing and delivers what customer surveys rarely do: the wording. Put the questions from People Also Ask next to the questions in your own inbox and you see immediately where your site writes in supplier vocabulary while people search for the problem. That list takes an hour to build and outlasts most tinkering with markup.

People Also Ask in practice

  1. 01A law firm reads ten questions out of the box and renames its headings, because people ask about cost where the page talks about the fee schedule.
  2. 02A trades business sees from the questions that grants are the most common doubt before an enquiry, and answers that on the offer page rather than in a separate guide.
  3. 03A software vendor structures its help page around the questions from the box and answers each section in the first two sentences, so the excerpt makes sense on its own.
