What is Zero-Click Search?
Zero-click search describes queries that end without a click on any result. The answer appears directly on the search page: as a featured snippet, knowledge panel or - increasingly - as an AI answer in AI Overviews.
For websites this means visibility and traffic are decoupling. You can be present without getting visitors. That presence is still valuable - whoever is cited in the answer builds the brand contact that tips the scale in the buying moment.
The consequence isn't retreat but division of labour: serve informational queries so the citation carries your brand (GEO), while transactional pages - offers, prices, contact - keep earning the click that still happens.
Why does Zero-Click Search matter?
Around 60 percent of all Google searches already ended without a click in 2024, and AI Overviews push that share further. If you only measure success in click traffic, you are measuring against a shrinking number.
Zero-Click Search in practice
- 01A precise definition in the first 40 words of a page gets picked up as a snippet or AI citation - the brand name travels with it.
- 02FAQ blocks with schema markup answer the question right in the search results and qualify the click that still comes.
- 03Transactional pages with prices, availability and contact stay click-strong - that's where the conversion energy belongs.
